Intro Blog


     My name is Noura Attah, and I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High School. I enjoy playing lacrosse, drawing, reading, and participating in theater. My interest in theater is what initially sparked by interest in Media Studies. Hence, why I am thrilled to be in Media Studies this year because I have always wanted to participate in filmmaking and try directing media. I also consider myself to be very artsy and creative. So, I am already beginning to subconsciously analyze films I watch now after having spent just some time in this class. I am looking forward to using such artistic abilities for something different that I have never done before. I am also curious to see how my talents will be depicted in this project, and hope I am able to get all my ideas across well. This project will incorporate lacrosse into its plot, which I am looking forward to because I have never been able to share my feelings towards the sport, from a filmmaking standpoint. I think my experience and personal connection with lacrosse will benefit me throughout the production of this project. It allows me to relate to the product I am advertising and will make the process even more exciting.

    In addition to filming, I am also excited to work with audio in this project and throughout my time in Media Studies. I consider music to be essential to my life and I never leave the house without my headphones. I do absolutely everything with music, so I am excited to experiment with different audios during the working process. My prior knowledge on music is also limited to what I am exposed to on a daily basis. In other words, music is a huge part of my everyday life, but I have never been able to utilize it in the way that I can for this class. So, figuring out how to use audio in relation to film and directing is something I find interesting. I am a firm believer that sound or music can either downgrade a piece of media or elevate it. My passion for music will also help me be successful throughout this project, because will motivate me to experiment with different sounds. Hence, why I look forward to getting to decide the auditory content that will best fit this project and the ones to come.

Short Film Research: Omnibus/ Comedy

     Hey everyone, welcome back to another one of our research blogs. Today we will be digging in and looking into the Short Film Omnibus, a comedy. This film was made by Sam Karmann and won the Oscar in the 1992-1993 awards season. It portrays a Frenchman trying to get off of a train at a stop which it wasn't scheduled for. In this film, the sound starts off as some cheesy movie intro, giving us this pattern that that's how a short film comedy should start. On the train in this film, all you could hear was the sound of the engine along with the dialogue between the Frenchman and the worker on the train. The idea of minimum sound is now starting to become a pattern we have noticed through the short films we have analyzed so far. When analyzing the Mis-en-scene in this film, the costumes are usually oversized for the main character who has to well be humorous. Production is not for the Weak!

Hello, reader! As always, welcome back to my blog! I am glad you were able to stop by again. There are a few thing that have changed since you were last here. For example, my group and I were only able to film a small portion of our short film yesterday. Today, we were planning on finishing the production, but we are all very busy with a studying for a test in another class. So, none of us really prioritized the short film getting made. However, I do want to finish it soon because I love the editing process that comes after production finishing.  Also, speaking of the editing process, it is very tedious. Since I am usually in charge of the editing of a media project, I am worried for a few reasons. One thing that I am worried about is that I will run out of time and not finish editing the final short film. Since the short film has to not look choppy, I am worried if we do not finish production fast enough and I have to edit a rushed piece of media, it will end up looking messy. So,...

Our Script

  Scene 1:   Film opens to shot of a window on a house. It is nighttime and a group of girls are having a pillow fight in the room seen through the window.     Scene 2:   Camera moves through the window and takes the audience into the bedroom with the girls. They stop fighting and decide they need water and snacks, so they call to the girl in the kitchen and tell her to hurry up.     Scene 3:    Cuts to the girl in the kitchen getting glasses of water when the microwave beeps. Shot of her opening the microwave door and grabbing the popcorn. Then we follow her as she balances everything and yells back saying “Coming!” to her friends.     Scene 4:   The girls all sit in a circle on the bed with the popcorn bowl in the middle.
