My Creative Critical Reflection

1.       How does your video use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My video uses conventions by depicting the teenage experience as one that is defined by insecurity. It supports the stereotypes shown in several Olivia Rodrigo music videos. These include, clips of teenagers having fun and being reckless, and themes of low self-esteem in the youth. Therefore, my video represents the social group of teenagers and the insecurity issues they face as they explore their adolescence.   2. How does your video engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?    My video engages with audiences by being promoted on social media through posts and on music channels (e.x- Billboard) discussing new music videos recently released. It engages with audiences while they are watching it by showing the characters in different angles including dutch, low, and in tracking shots. This keeps the audience focused and interested in the subject

Ladies and Gents...Brutal!

Macy, Sam, and I had a blast filming this music video. Production had its ups and downs, but we made it out alive and are proud of what we made together. It really is brutal out here, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Last Minute Nitpicking (It Has to be Done)!

Before the 14th, we decided that Macy was to be in charge of majority of the editing process. I would be in charge of going over the edits she makes as well. By this point, we were finished with all of the actual taping and production of the music video. All that was left were the edits. So, once we decided on Macy doing them on iMovie, I knew I had to discuss how to edit the clips. First, starting with the basic edits. This included just attaching all the clips to each other. Also, picking how to transition each clip into the other. Whether through cutting or a smooth glide. I decided that it would make the most sense to use a cut when the main character was running away from the masked figure. This would create a sense of tension because of the quick transition.      After this, the basic editing was done. However, we had to figure out how to fit the music to the clips seamlessly. We decided to not play the music throughout the filming process because it affected the qualit

Edits, People, Edits!

After the last week of November, most of our production was complete! We had followed our storyboard (and the changes we made to it). We successfully carried out costume changes. Plus, we navigated our way through unplanned weather changes. Even weather changes that led to location changes for filming. Most of these major changes had to be done in a week because Macy was going out of town on a trip with her family. All of our filming was being done at her house! We could not film without Macy because of this. So, we decided it would be best for us to film majority of the music video during the week before Macy left to avoid more unnecessary conflicts. However, this also meant that we had to discuss edits and if we would edit before or after Macy returned from her trip.     In our previous project, I carried out majority of the editing that was done. I have experience with editing software. Plus, I just enjoy the editing process, so I happily volunteered. However, we wanted to keep

Sometimes Cuts Just Don't Cut It!

While filming our last scene in Macy's backyard, we hit a roadblock. We were unsure how to make our actions look authentic as we performed them. We are no perfectionists and knew our acting was not essential to the shots. However, we felt it would make the plot confusing if we could not execute this scene right. So, we worked at it for a very long time. The main dilemma was that we did not know how to make the two characters in the scene play catch with the prop (a beachball), without it looking choppy. We thought that the best solution would be to show an over-the-shoulder shot of the main character throwing the ball. Then, we would cut to the other character catching that same ball. However, we needed several cuts to make it look comprehensible. Still, it would just look like the ball came out of nowhere when we tried to play the two clips together!      For a while, we just settled on editing the clip later to make it look like a smoother transition. However, we came up wit
