My Creative Critical Reflection
1. How does your video use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My video uses conventions by depicting the teenage experience as one that is defined by insecurity. It supports the stereotypes shown in several Olivia Rodrigo music videos. These include, clips of teenagers having fun and being reckless, and themes of low self-esteem in the youth. Therefore, my video represents the social group of teenagers and the insecurity issues they face as they explore their adolescence.
2. How does your video engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My video engages with audiences by being promoted on social media through posts and on music channels (e.x- Billboard) discussing new music videos recently released. It engages with audiences while they are watching it by showing the characters in different angles including dutch, low, and in tracking shots. This keeps the audience focused and interested in the subject matter because of the constant movement. It would be distributed as a music video uploaded to YouTube by a music artist.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I became more comfortable with filming and more specifically, directing the actors throughout this project. During production for my previous project, I was worried about being too assertive with my group mates in order to get things done. However, filming for this project taught me that it’s okay to take initiative and communicate your ideas to the rest of the group. This allowed my production skills of directing to develop greatly.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I integrated technologies into this project by utilizing a dynamic phone stand to film scenes and tracking shots. The phone mount helped me keep the phone still while walking with the actor during a take. This ensured that the final take was not shaky or unclear. I also used the internet to research conventions prior to filming. By doing this, I was able to decide if I should use, or go against them in production.
