Rain, Rain Go Away...Come Again on a Different Production Day!

Image
On the 26th, me and my group had planned to finish the second page of our storyboard in filming. This meant we had several components to complete. This included costume changes and a location change. Safe to say that we were booked and busy for the day! The scene that we were planning on spending the most time on was the beach scene. In this scene, the main character flees from her car and is transported to a beach filled with her friends. The main dilemma faced: how to get to the beach. Fortunately, we were filming at Macy's house. She lives very close to the beach and would've been able to get us there. If it weren't for the weather that day. The forecast was set to be cloudy and gloomy all day. This really affected our filming because not only was the lighting going to be poor, but the waves would be rough at the beach. Meaning that we probably could not go in the water, let alone be allowed to go to the beach at all.      So, this meant that we needed a backup plan

New Equipment and New Alterations!

On the next day of production, me and my group had a plan for finishing a good portion of the music video. This included getting new equipment. In our previous project, we had some trouble making sure our shots were not shaky. This was difficult because we were only using our phones and our hands. So, it took several tries to get a take that was clear and did not have any shaking. To avoid this issue in our music video, we got a phone stand to hold my phone as we filmed! The stand helped because it could keep the phone perfectly straight when we wanted to include a tracking shot. Also, it would rotate the phone 90 or 180 degrees as we so pleased, so we did not have to worry about wobbling. This made it super easy to carry out Dutch and canted angles. It also particularly made it easier for us to film our car scene.     In the storyboard, the car scene was that main character looking into a car window and seeing the masked figure in the window reflection. However, we had already m

Production Day Means Changes are Underway!

Monday was the first day of filming at Macy's house! We spent some time discussing the equipment we were going to use to film the scenes. Soon after, we headed to Macy's room to shoot the first couple scenes. Once we had shot those beginning scenes, we ran into a few issues. The first one being that we didn't know how to ensure that the music aligned with our footage as we shot it. We resolved this issue by playing the song as we filmed and trying to get it as closely timed as possible. So, whenever we shot another take, one of us would have the song playing through a different device. This also made it so that we didn't go over we knew we weren't going over the time limit as we were filming. We also decided that the scenes could be edited to perfectly match the song anyways. So, these tactics ultimately solved that problem.      As filming continued, we ran into another problem. The more scenes we tried to film, the more we had to shy away from what we had orig

The Storyboard

Image
First scene:   Our first shot will be filmed at Macy's house where our main character will be laying in bed. The camera will pan into a medium close up of her face. This will open and establish our main character.   Second scene:   This shot will show the main character walking into her bathroom and looking into the mirror, starting the plot of the video. She will be brushing her teeth and getting ready in a melancholic way. The girl will then look to her side and with a quick camera pan to the shower the camera shows a "monster" standing there. The monster is our second character who is an unknown masked person. The camera then pans back to the mirror where the main character screams at her reflection and runs out of the bathroom.   Third scene:   The camera tracks the girl's back and follows her out of the door of the bathroom, which opens up to outside of a cafe. In this shot the main character is walking out into the parking lot of the cafe with a coffee in

If You Fail to Plan, You Plan to Fail

Props:   Our music video is set in everyday life which means that our props are everyday items like a toothbrush, a car, a coffee cup, and a beach ball.       Costumes:   Our music video has two characters. The main subject will be wearing pajamas in the beginning, and then change to a swimsuit in a later scene. The other character will be wearing all black and a mask. Our actors will have their hair and makeup done in a natural way; however, they would usually have it done in the morning and at the beach.        Schedule:   On 11/11/22, our group researched the conventions and codes of pop music and Olivia Rodrigo music videos.   On 11/14/22, our group established the props, costumes, schedule, location list, and backup plan for filming.   On 11/17/22, our group will create the storyboard for our 1 minute 15 second music video.   On 11/21/22, our group will film and record the shots for our commercial.   On 11/22/22-12/16/22, our group will edit the footage and add the finishing t

Research is Key!

My group is making our music video to the song "brutal" by Olivia Rodrigo. This song is a pop song, and in other music videos for Olivia Rodrigo songs, as well as similar pop songs, there is often an early 2000s feel with a lot of bright colors and different scenes.    The subjects in these videos are often with a significant other or friends, doing activities.   The setting is also usually in a busy or central area, like a school, fair, or mall.    The subjects are seen doing choreographed dance, especially background dancers if the main subject is not   The filming often has elements of editing to make it look like it was filmed on a camera from the early 2000s, especially in Olivia Rodrigo music videos   The songs in these videos are generally about heartbreak or relationships, so that is seen in the video   This means there is often times scenes of couples, or evidence of past relationships   Costumes in these are up to date with pop culture and modern times, being ve
