Production Blog: We Did It!
On Saturday, the 8th, me and my partner went to lacrosse practice and planned to film once it was over. We realized this was the last opportunity we had to film if we wanted to finish on time. So, we decided which of our teammates would be in the commercial and told them their roles. During this process, we realized that we did not have the actual product. Our product, being a Celsius can, is fairly easy to find at any convenience store. Fortunately, the field we were practicing at happened to be right by a Walgreens. We walked to the Walgreens and then ended up having to walk to a Publix as well since the Walgreens didn't have the product. This took around 40 minutes off of our filming time. Such a loss in time brought up the concern that it could get too dark, and we would no longer be able to film. However, the sun set later than expected and we did not have to rush the production after all.
Once the filming started, the entire process came easy. A small portion of the commercial is set in the parking lot next to the field. There are only two scenes set in this location, but they took a while to film because my partner and I found it hard to get a good angle. One of the two scenes in the lot includes a shot of a car, and we struggled to not get our reflection in the car as we filmed it. Eventually, we decided it was not that big of a deal and moved on to our other scenes. As the production progressed, we had to alter some of our scenes that were on the storyboard. For example, the car scene was shot with a different car than the one in the storyboard because the car we planned to use, broke down. We also took out the scene where one of our subjects turns on the speaker; we decided it wasn't necessary. Other than these minor alterations, this filming day went well, and we finished shooting all our scenes. All that is left now is editing!
