And the Final Genre Is...

Romance:

The use of editing with time jumps and costumes is a fun part of this genre for directors. They also use unique mis-en-scene and music that are pros to using this genre. It is overall just heartwarming to produce and watch. On the other hand, they tend to be long and drawn out which can be a challenge when trying to be concise with filming. They also are often not very original and play off the same cliches. This can constrict directors.

Thriller:

This genre allows for a lot of creative freedom. That is one thing we liked about it, as well as the overall feeling of suspense. This genre, however, can be hard to execute because of the dark settings they often take place in. This restriction can be worked around though.

Sci-fi:

The quirks and uniqueness of the concepts are positives to this genre. They create different ways of thinking and make the mind wander, which is interesting for directors to create. The editing and costumes can be a con to this genre though. With the outlandish plots and sets the quality has to be really good to be seen as realistic, this is hard to achieve as students with no funding.

What we chose:

We chose the thriller genre. This was our choice because we liked the feeling of suspense and the freedom it allows us to have while directing. It fits best with our pitch and will be an exciting way to execute our ideas. With the freedom this genre has we can work around lighting restrictions moderately easily. It is also very attainable in the costumes and makeup department.
